Redundancy dismissal

Redundancy dismissal is when your employer ends your job because there is no more work for you and not because you have done something wrong. The law requires that the reasons given by the employer for redundancy- dismissal be sensible and believable in the eyes of honest and reasonable people. The employer is required to give you reasonable notice on the prospect of redundancy- dismissal, give you all necessary information about the business situation, talk to you and genuinely listen to your ideas, etc. If the employer fails in one or more of these requirements you can take action against the employer for unjustified dismissal. Sometimes employees can demand to be made redundant if they have rights to redundancy payment in their contracts; this may be in situations where the employer is relocating to another distant location.
